Quick Summary / Abstract: Staff will present one new course for consideration and approval.
Background: The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) is committed to developing courses that provide students with a wide-range of opportunities to prepare students to “contribute and thrive in a changing world.” Our Board of Education encourages creating new courses and updating courses that are engaging to students and prepare students for success in the 21st Century.
Status As we strive to remain competitive in meeting student and parent requests for rigorous college preparatory coursework, career technical education, and elective opportunities that will prepare students for multiple options beyond high school, we collaborate closely with high school teachers and administrators to keep our current courses updated and new courses prepared for Board approval.

In an effort to increase opportunities for students to practice critical thinking, innovation, and prepare students for life after high school, the following new course is being presented for consideration and approval:

New Course:

Literacy and Critical Thinking, Innovation, Fitness, and Ethics– The Literacy and Critical Thinking, Innovation, Fitness, and Ethic course is designed to prepare seniors for adult life ahead of them. Students will be introduced to many topics that will aid them in being more successful after high school. Students will also explore personal aspects that affect their life including finance, communication, and personal care.
Fiscal Impact Instructional materials will be purchased from the District-established Instructional Materials budget using Local Control Funding Formula dollars.
Superintendent's Recommendation: Approve 9-12 New Course Description – Literacy and Critical Thinking, Innovation, Fitness, and Ethics.
