Quick Summary / Abstract:
Background: Board Policy requires specific authorization in each instance where employees travel out of state on District business.
Status Six members of the Granada High School (GHS) Math team respectfully request Board approval to attend the National Conference of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Annual Meeting and Exposition in Illinois, April 1-4, 2020. The GHS team will attend workshops that will focus on: 1) Implementing Effective Teaching Practices; 2) Experiencing the Depth and Excitement of Mathematics; and 3) Creating Positive Change, and Building Student Agency/Fostering Student Identity/Promoting Social Change. The team will be bringing back fresh ideas, information, and resources in every math subject from Math Academy to Multivariable Calculus to share with staff. This conference is consistent with the goals of our draft Math Plan. There is no comparable conference in California.
Fiscal Impact The expense associated with the travel including classroom substitutes, air travel, lodging, and convention expense will be paid using site professional development funds.
Superintendent's Recommendation: Approve the Out-of-State Professional Development for Six Staff Members to Attend the National Conference of Teachers of Mathematics in Illinois, April 1-4, 2020.
