Quick Summary / Abstract:
Staff will present one updated course for consideration and approval.
The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) is committed to developing courses that provide students with a wide-range of opportunities to prepare students to “contribute and thrive in a changing world.” Our Board of Education encourages creating new courses and updating courses that are engaging to our students and prepares them for success in the 21st Century. This updated course includes the California State Standards and supports students in their pursuit of college and career readiness.
As we strive to remain competitive in meeting student and parent requests for rigorous college preparatory coursework, career technical education, and elective opportunities that will prepare students for multiple options beyond high school, we collaborate closely with our high school teachers and administrators to keep our current courses updated and new courses prepared for Board approval.

The Advanced Placement (AP) European History course is being revised to align with the new History Social Science Framework that better prepares our students for the AP European History exam. In the process, the course description has been updated to reflect the new College Board format. The following updated course is being presented for consideration and approval:

Updated Courses:

Advanced Placement (AP) European History introduces students to European history since AD 1300 emphasizing the cultural, economic, political, and social developments that played a fundamental role in shaping the world in which we live. In addition to providing a basic narrative of events and movements, the goals of AP European History are to develop: (a) an understanding of some of the principal themes in modern European history; (b) the ability to analyze historical evidence and historical interpretation; and (c) the ability to express historical understanding in writing. Upon completion of the course, our students will be prepared to take the Advanced Placement European History Exam. Students will develop the following history reasoning skills throughout the course: contextualization, comparison, causation, continuity and change over time.
Fiscal Impact:
Instructional materials will be purchased from our District-established Instructional Materials budget using Local Control Funding Formula dollars.
