Quick Summary / Abstract:
Background: California is a national leader in the development of rigorous, comprehensive standards as the foundation for educational programs. Career and Technical Education (CTE) is a vital component of public education in California. Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) Career and Technical Education teachers are integrating the rigorous California standards with CTE standards and industry-specific knowledge and skills to prepare students both for direct entry into California’s vibrant industry sectors and for postsecondary education. CTE’s mission is to provide industry-linked programs and services that enable all individuals to reach their career goals in order to achieve economic self-sufficiency, compete in the global marketplace, and contribute to California’s economic prosperity.

Observed nationally, Career Technical Education Month is celebrated in February each year, highlighting the impact of career and technical education on student success, workforce development and the economy, and advocating for an increased CTE presence in secondary education. This year’s theme, “Celebrate Today, Own Tomorrow!,” highlights the value of career pathways and academies, teaching vital employability skills that employers are seeking, and preparing students for the 21st Century workforce. CTE plays a critical role in educating America’s future workforce, preparing students to be college and career ready. Today’s cutting-edge, rigorous and relevant CTE prepares youth and adults for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, and high-demand careers. In partnership with the business community, CTE enriches the lives of students with the knowledge and skills to prepare them to fulfill the evolving needs of business and industry. The LVJUSD mission of graduating students who contribute and thrive in a changing world can be enhanced through CTE, where students learn to be successful employees as well as future leaders.
Status Resolution No. 031-18/19 has been prepared to encourage the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District staff and students, along with the community as a whole, to observe Career and Technical Education Month.
Fiscal Impact There is no impact to the General Fund. Career and Technical Education grant funds are used to cover the cost of the Career and Technical Education Initiative.
