Spanish 3 DRAFT 3.25.19.pdf
Quick Summary / Abstract: Staff will present one updated course for consideration and approval.
Background: The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) is committed to developing courses that provide students with a wide-range of opportunities to prepare students to “contribute and thrive in a changing world.” Our Board of Education encourages creating new courses and updating courses that are engaging to our students and prepare them for success in the 21st Century. This updated course includes the California State Standards and supports students in their pursuit of college and career readiness.
Status As we strive to remain competitive in meeting student and parent requests for rigorous college preparatory coursework, career technical education, and elective opportunities that will prepare students for multiple options beyond high school, we collaborate closely with our high school teachers and administrators to keep our current courses updated and new courses prepared for Board approval.

The Spanish 3 A/B course is being revised to align with the World Language Standards and to reflect the new College Board format. The following updated course is being presented for consideration and approval:

Updated Course:

Spanish 3 A/B - Throughout Spanish 3, students will expand previous knowledge with increasingly complex concepts in language and culture, emphasizing the three modes of communication (interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational) to develop deeper comprehension as well as speaking and writing production in Spanish within a cultural context. Students will study the cultural diversity of the Spanish-speaking world through engaging activities. There will be an emphasis on oral skills and students will be required to speak in Spanish on a variety of topics useful for daily life (including nature, city life, health and well-being, the workplace, the arts, current events, and politics).
Fiscal Impact Instructional materials will be purchased from our District-established Instructional Materials budget using Local Control Funding Formula dollars.
